Welcome to “Black Friday” where we highlight the beauty, strength and athleticism of black dancers, choreographers, and dance companies. We hope that this effort will shine a light on the beauty and diversity of dance.

Many people know about famous choreographers like Alvin Ailey and Akram Khan, but do you know about the many black women who are choreographers? It may (not) come as a surprise that a gender/racial glass ceiling exist in the dance world, but it does. Many women of color have paved the way for current dancers like Misty Copeland. Well, on this #blackfriday we are going to share some of the black women who inspire us at Black Dance Is Beautiful.
